IT’S PAST TIME FOR THE NEW YORK STATE REPARATIONS BILL!
New York State is behind the rest of the country in addressing the issue of reparations for Black people. The New York State Legislature has until June 8, 2023, to vote on reparations legislation being put forward by New York State Senator Jabari Brisport and New York State Assemblymember Michaelle Solages.
On Monday, June 5, 4 PM at the African Burial Ground at Duane Street, downtown Manhattan, the December 12th Movement is calling a press conference to highlight the urgency of passing this legislation.
The proposed New York State legislation is unique in the major administrative role it provides community organizations which have demonstrated an historical commitment to the demand for reparations. Representatives from the December 12th Movement, the Institute of the Black World and N’COBRA, the three legislatively-designated community organizations, will attend.
Local elected officials, including City Councilmember Charles Barron, who, then, as an Assemblymember, originally submitted the bill, and community organizations from around the city are expected to attend.
