Comptroller’s Report on “The Racial Wealth Gap in New York” Heats Up Demand for Governor Hochul to Sign NYS Reparations Bill
New York – Human rights lawyer, Roger Wareham, from the December 12th Movement, confirmed today, that several highly respected organizations including N’COBRA (National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America), the Medgar Evers Center for Law and Social Justice, the Drammeh Institute, Inc., have confirmed that they will host a Press Conference on Monday, December 11, 2023 – 4:00 pm ET to announce plans for intensifying the demand for Governor Hochul to sign the reparations bill collecting dust on her desk. The press conference will be held in front of the governor’s Manhattan office located at 633 Third Avenue (40th Street) in NYC.
In the face of the increasing inequities highlighted by NYC Comptroller Brad Lander’s just-released report on the racial wealth gap throughout New York State, the community demands to know why Governor Hochul has failed to sign the NYS Reparations bill passed by the legislature over 6 months ago.
Invited speakers include NYS Senator James Sanders and Assemblyperson Michaelle Solages, sponsors of the NYS Reparations Bill, NYS Senators Jabari Brisport, Cordell Cleare, Robert Jackson; NYS Assembly members Khaleel Anderson, Chantel Jackson, Phara Souffrant-Forrest and Stephanie Zinerman.
