Solidarity with Zimbabwe: Anti-Sanctions Day – October 25th, 2025

October 25, 2025

Today October 25th, 2025, marks the 6th anniversary of Anti-Sanctions Day established by SADC to show solidarity with Zimbabwe. The December 12th Movement understands that no struggle is fought alone, we have been struggling in solidarity with ZANU-PF for over 20 years in the fight against the illegal and unjust sanctions levied against Zimbabwe.

The sanctions levied against Zimbabwe are a crime against humanity and constitute a direct undermining of its sovereignty. The United States long held assertion that the sanctions are to uphold democracy falls apart when considering its historic support of the non-democratic apartheid regime, and its current uneven application of sanctions in pursuing “democratic norms.” The sanctions brought against Zimbabwe are a direct result of a victorious national liberation war, which led to the reoccupation and ownership of land by the Zimbabwean people. In 2019 at the 39 SADC summit, October 25th was designated as anti-sanctions day as a show of Pan African unity and support for Zimbabwe against the unjust and illegal sanctions.

As there have bee no conversations to lift some aspects of the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act a full elimination has not been discussed, which appears to be further attempts to create destabilization and unrest. How can a country’s sanctions be lifted but its leader still be sanctioned? Zimbabweans should have the choice of their own destiny. The path from independence should not be determined by those outside its borders, much less those who supported the people’s oppression. Sanctioning political leaders directly threatens sovereignty and democracy, while laying ground for political instability.

Solidarity between the December 12th Movement and ZANU-PF is not just a word it is an everlasting promise and pledge of support no matter the conditions no matter the struggle, We are in this fight to the very end, NEVER GIVE UP!
